Question Does my cat need Dasani or something???

Ok, so my cat, Mickey has had an automatic water dispenser for close to a year now. He has done fine with it and we only had to put new water in it when it ran out, for some reason about a month ago he started asking weekly for new water (sits by his water dish and meows or will stand up and paw at the refrigerator when someone is getting water) so I thought sure the water might get stale sitting in there so long and gave him new water. This week it has been daily, and last night I gave him new water only to have him move his water dish (the size of him) into the middle of our path (he does this with the food dish when it is empty) spilling water everywhere on my hardwood floors So I thought maybe his water dish wasn't clean and handwashed it and put new water in for the second time that night, I wake up this morning.....he has moved it yet again spilling water everywhere again I've heard of pets being picky about their food, but has anyone heard of a pet needing special water

I had this big ole tabby once that would only drink fresh water. He wouldn't drink out of a bowl at all. Seriously, every time that cat wanted a drink he went to the sink and turned the water on to get one, and then drank straight out of the faucet. I had that cat for 13 years and when we moved I had to find him a home (couldn't bring them with us), so I hope his new owners were ok with his personality quirks.

You can always check with your vet and make sure the cat is healthy, and not lacking anything nutritional, but he could just be super picky.

Our cat also won't drink out of a bowl. Either out of the facet or out of our glasses! If you have set a glass of ice water down in our house you better watch it because otherwise you will find Harley helping herself!

Our cats drink out of the bowl, but one of my cats loves to drink out of the faucet. The love running water...try cleaning out the whole dispenser maching.

I'd say go over the dispenser again and make sure there are no moldy pieces where maybe some stagnant water sat. Maybe your city is putting a new chemical in their water supply or adding more of a chemical to compensate for dirty ground water or something like that and he doesn't like it.

For an experiment you could go to the store and just get a plain 'ole gallon of drinking water or spring water and see what happens with that. I doubt that would cost you more than about a dollar.

Unfortunately, I have no answer for you, but I have a similar problem with one of our cats. She will paw at the water in the bowl, splash it out of the bowl onto the floor, and drink it off the floor.
We have one water dispenser and one regular bowl and she does this with both.

I agree with making sure the dispenser is clean. I have an auto waterer for our cats and if I do not clean out the dispenser at least weekly our oldest one will not drink form the dish. I actually use bleach on mine, because It gets cruddy looking after a week.

I don't have any cats, but I have seen these before:

It's a water fountain for cats!

Ok, I'm thinking that he has to just be playing a little mind control game....I washed it out yesterday with antibacterial dawn and very hot water, then inspected for any pink mold, didn't find any, I then put it in the dish washer and left it in there for the "sanitized" setting, filled with new water, and put back in the floor only to have him sit there and meow at me....I told him to drink it and left the room, he moved the dish again, I just scooted it right back, he meowed again a few more times and then this morning I woke up to wet hardwood floors I finally put one of those non skid rubber things under it and he hasn't been able to move it today....I haven't been to the store yet to try the distilled water, but seriously, should I have to buy my 1 1/2 year old cat water when my family drinks it right out of the faucet all of the time and so has he for his whole life??

hehe i don't know what to say... sounds like you've cleaned it well... maybe get a brita pitcher, that'd be cheaper than constantly buying water. i also agree with a previous poster about a trip to the vet... just to rule out anything!
