It is for this reason that I don't have current coworkers as FB friends. Some of us have common friends among former co-workers, so we see each other's comments on those friends' statuses, but none of us have asked each other to be friends. If someone does, I will decline and just say that I don't have current coworkers as FB friends.
I hope everything works out ok in your situation; sounds like a tough one.
