So DH gets into our car after work and when he starts it, the Security light comes on, on the dash board. This is a first, I didnt even know it had one! So, we dont know what that means, of course DH has taken out the owner manual before and didnt put it back, and I cant find it:rolleyes: so we have no idea why this is happening. Have any of you had this happen before to your vehicle, and what does it mean? We have an impala.

I googled it, and it looks like this is a very common problem with Impalas. The Security light means that the "passlock" system has been activated, which means that your car thinks it has been stolen. It may just randomly decide not to start while the Security light is on.
It looks like the dealer can repair it for about $450, but if you are handy with cars, you can completely disable the passlock system by interrupting the wiring to it. Do some googling on Impala Passlock and you will find lots of info about it.

I have grand am and my security light came on once a few weeks ago. I luckly still have the book and it said the same thing about the passlock. So far I've not had any trouble with it not wanting to start or anything. Still not sure why it came on tho.

Well, I told DH the info you gave me Meg, he didnt do anything about it:rolleyes: . Guess who got stranded at CVS today! UGH! I finally got it started after waiting 30 minutes. He says he figured out how to fix it, by reading some info online. I guess we will see. I just know I had better not get stranded again!

Any chance you can switch cars until he gets it fixed? Maybe he can get stranded?

Unfortunatly, its the only vehicle we have at the moment. We are in the process of buying another vehicle. We have an appointment w/the dealer on Wed to leave it to be repaired. The info my husband read online was just a temporary fix. So, I guess we are lucky we will have the vehicle we are test driving for a few days untill our other one is finished! The garage down the road told us it takes all of 20 minutes to fix, but for some reason they keep them for 2 to 3 days!

We took the car to the dealer and they reset the anti-theft system and it seems to be working ok now. It only cost $45.00! I couldn't believe it, I was ready to have to shell out more than that. Needless to say I was so happy, afterwards I went shopping!:D We also bought the blazer we were looking at, so now we have 2 cars. I am SO happy, I finally have transportation when I need it!:D

That is so cool that you didn't have to spend too much money.:) Sometimes modern technology is too much, isn't it?;)
