I would love to start making my own Spaghetti Sauce from scratch.
I want to be able to freeze it so I can just grab and thaw out. Does anyone have a good, yet simple recipe for this? Thanks!

Here's the one (http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Italian-Spaghetti-Sauce-with-Meatballs/Detail.aspx)I have used. I like it, it was good & not hard at all, the meatballs were superb! My family didn't really notice the difference though in the sauce, so I went back to my favorite jarred one, but make these meatballs to go w/ it.

This is an old family favorite

1 (6 oz) can tomato paste
3 (8oz) cans tomato sauce
1 (14.5 oz) can diced tomatos
1-1 1/2 lbs ground beef
1 tsp sugar
1 tbsp parmesan cheese
1 tsp oregano
1/2 tsp basil
2 gloves garlic
1 tbsp parsley
1/4 tsp black pepper
1 1/2 tsp salt
1 diced onion

Brown ground beef w/ onion and drain excess fat. Return meat mixture to pot and add remaining ingredients.

Simmer on low--the longer the better. I normally do it at least an hour but find 3 hours makes it really good.

My mom used to make the best red sauce. She would simmer it all day. She doesn't remember anymore and she's only 60!

I'll be watching this thread.

I just throw in fresh chopped roma tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, canned diced tomatoes, a little bit of sugar, lots of garlic, oregano, fresh chopped italian parsley, some basil and a little red pepper and simmer all day! I can't tell you how much of what because I keep adding until I think it's just right and I make a ton of it when I do.

I add onions to my meat and then add the meat mixture to the sauce later in the day and let it simmer more.

Keep in mind that my family is PIIIIICKYYYY!!!!

29oz can tomato sauce or puree, I have yet to figure out the difference.

1 Tablespoon Italian Seasoning

1/8th cp brown sugar

Salt and Pepper

Done.:o

Add more or less of everything, according to your taste.

Now, I'm off to try everyone's REAL recipes for sauce, though, I don't know who I'll feed it to......

Usually, the sauce is pre-seasoned. When we bother to make it ourselves, we switched to using puree or crushed only so we can figure out what's making it taste the way it does. Haven't done sauce from scratch since I went back to school though :o

OMG... I was just thinking the same thing... I need a good recipe for red sauce that I can add to meat or use as a base for other things instead of buying the expensive jarred sauces... hubby only like barilla and I can rarely find sales or coupons for it... he is not big on other brands but I also tend to add burger or sausage to it.... or use the sauce as a base for lasagna or meatball and sausage in a crockpot for sandwiches....

I use the canned/jarred sauces and add tomato sauce, tomato paste, Italian seasoning, Oregano, garlic, seasoning salt, pepper, bell peppers, and onion powder. I add the spices to taste. If I have tomatoes that need to be used up, I will cut them up and add it too.
